A Better Way To Receive Visitors
Door entry systems let a visitor speak to somebody inside before a door is released. Video adds a view of the caller, while audio-only entry may be enough for a straightforward entrance. The aim is controlled admission without leaving a reception door open or sharing a permanent access code.
We discuss entry systems for Bradford offices, shared commercial entrances, workshops and managed premises. The right design depends on the number of destinations, the way calls are answered and the physical door. An entrance used by deliveries needs different call handling from a staff reception.
Describe who should receive a call and what happens if nobody answers. A receptionist, several tenants or a mobile user may each need a different route. Planning this early avoids a system that works technically but does not fit the people using it.
Choose Audio, Video Or Managed Calling
A simple wired audio system can suit a modest entrance with a clear answering point. A video panel can help the person answering understand who is outside. Camera height, glare from the sky and lighting at the entrance all affect the usefulness of that view.
An IP system may use existing network infrastructure where it is suitable and authorised. App-based calling can offer flexibility, but mobile coverage, internet availability and subscriptions should be checked. The building should have a plan for visitors if the connection or a personal phone is unavailable.
Shared buildings also need a process for changing occupant details and withdrawing access to answering devices. Avoid tying the entire system to the personal account of a departing tenant. Ask who will administer the directory and retain the configuration after handover.
Door Hardware, Accessibility And Escape
The entrance panel does not secure the building by itself. A dependable door closer, suitable lock and sound frame are needed for the door to return to a secure position. A door held open by deliveries may need a practical management change as well as new electronics.
Emergency doors must open easily as part of the building evacuation arrangements. We consider door release alongside the escape route and any fire alarm interface. Government guidance explains why a security device must not obstruct safe escape.
GOV.UK: Escape Routes ↗For an entry camera that records or stores identifiable images, the privacy implications need reviewing. An ordinary live visitor view and a recording surveillance system are not the same specification. Recording, remote viewing and access logs should be explained clearly rather than added by default.
GOV.UK: Commercial CCTV ↗How An Entry System Project Works
The survey starts with the door, frame, power and wiring. Existing commercial entry cabling may be reusable, but the type and condition need checking against the proposed equipment. We also record the number of answering points and the practical route between floors or buildings.
The proposal sets out the entrance panel, receivers, any network requirements and how door release will work. Installation should account for continued access by occupants. In shared premises, the building manager needs to coordinate visits and explain temporary arrangements.
Testing follows the complete visitor journey. A caller selects the right destination, the recipient answers and the door releases for the agreed period before closing securely. Handover should cover volume, user changes, app accounts where relevant and the action to take if the door does not latch.
What Changes The Cost Of Door Entry
Door entry cost depends on the number of entrances and answering points, cable condition and the door hardware. A simple replacement panel can be very different from a new system across several floors. Stonework repairs, access equipment and network changes can also affect the quote.
Ask whether the price includes locks, closers, power supplies and making good around old panels. Mobile calling, cloud management and connectivity may carry ongoing charges. These should be visible before you choose the system.
If regular staff need their own credential, combine the visitor plan with access control for staff doors. For a vehicle entrance, see automatic gate systems and their separate safety requirements. Send the property type, entrance count and the problem you want to solve through our enquiry form.
Plan The Visitor Journey
Think through a visitor arriving in poor light or wet weather. They need to find the call button, hear the person answering and understand when the door has released. Panel position and answering arrangements should reflect that journey.
Deliveries can expose gaps in an otherwise reasonable entry plan. Decide who answers when reception is busy and whether a driver can safely wait outside the entrance. A clear visitor process reduces the temptation to prop open the door or circulate a shared code that later becomes difficult to control.
